About Us

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it” - A quote from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, a movie about a group of friends on a sightseeing adventure.

When we first started Where You Want To Be, it was a simple walking and biking tour company that we did on the weekends. Marc's passion for San Diego and natural curiosity were the initial driving forces but as time went on, we quickly realized, we were given a very special gift. For us, Where You Want To Be Tours is a true reflection of who we are AND what we enjoy doing the most - inspiring and encouraging others to enjoy life. As our favorite neighbor Pat recently told us, "You two have found your true calling. You're like two kids in a candy store." That couldn't be more true.
And the best part about it?  We get to do it together, as a couple!

Where You Want To Be Tours is a an Award Winning company, which launched in July 2003 and since then, has become known for creating unique & out-of-the-box outdoor adventures. Our signature product, the Scavenger Hunt has been utilized as a corporate team building event for companies like YMCA, AT&T, Jack in The Box, ResMed, Cricket, San Diego Magazine, Sony, Sempra and Neurocrine. The Scavenger Hunts have also been designed as fundraisers for non-profit groups such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, outings for School Fitness Programs, the Asian Pacific Islander community, numerous Faith based organizations and the US Military’s Family Bonding Programs. As the daughter of an Army Officer, Darlynne is especially passionate about helping military families. "Our men & women in uniform do so much for our country. I saw that first hand with both my father and brother who had long, successful military careers. Supporting military families is the least we can do," says Darlynne.

In 2015, Where You Want To Be Tours merged with Out of the Ordinary Group & Team Adventures   OOO is an award winning company founded by Carrie Ellwood in 1996. Together, the two companies offer a wide variety of unique, team bonding programs and tours.  Co-owners Marc & Darlynne Menkin design and create all of the adventures. Where You Want To Be Tours has received numerous awards including “Best Team building Facilitator” by California Meetings & Events and Voted Best Tour for Locals by San Diego Magazine.

In addition to our signature Scavenger Hunt adventure, we also offer fun biking & walking tours, interactive bus adventures and customized Culinary & Wine Tours. Our video division,  Where You Want To Be TV produces travel & lifestyle programming for television, radio and the web. Darlynne has a background in television news and oversees their video production and media coaching division. Prior to running the tour company with Marc, Darlynne was a long time television News Reporter & Anchor and worked in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Las Vegas before settling in Sunny San Diego.

“Being a TV reporter was a dream come come true but running Where You Want To Be Tours with Marc has been amazing," says Darlynne. “We really do feel blessed," added Marc. "It's our hope that when you're with us, you'll feel the same way and at some point in your adventure, you'll say I’m exactly where I want to be."

In their spare time, Marc & Darlynne's personal life closely resembles their work life because they enjoy taking walks, riding bikes and traveling.  "Sometimes, we can't tell if we're working or if we're off because it's all so much fun," says Darlynne.  Marc & Darlynne are actively involved in the San Diego Tourism Authority and the San Diego Chamber of Commerce. They're also trained Marriage Coaches for the Rock Church.
